Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How is the used oil recycled?
A: the used cooking oil goes through an extensive heating, settling, filtering process that separates out the water, solids, and other impurities until the clean oil is all that remains. These impurities are all recycled and help power a local wastewater treatment plant. The clean oil is used as a feedstock in the production of clean burning bio-diesel. It does not go into the animal feed company market, as it does for other companies.
Q: How is your service different than that of your competitors?
A: Our service is superior to others in that it’s offered free of charge, we are fully certified and insured, our equipment is state of–the-art, and we assume the liability from our customers once the oil leaves your business with the waste manifest we provide. We guarantee that your waste is recycled instead polluting the environment or being added to your local landfill or sewer system. We also provide a quick, clean, professional and efficient service at your convenience, without any hassles. Other recycling companies may charge a fee for their service, or can be unlicensed, meaning you might end up being liable for the improper handling of your liquid waste.
Q: What if my business has multiple locations? Can you handle large accounts as well?
A: We have no problem servicing businesses with multiple locations. Please check out our service area (LINK) to see the communities we cover. We are also able to handle the needs of customers outside our service area. Please contact us to discuss how we can tailor our service to fit your needs. We are here to be a partner with our customers, the communities we serve and the environment as a whole.
Q: How long does it typically take to start up new service?
A: It typically takes 24 – 48 hours to set up new service with us.
Q: How much does your collection service cost?
A: Our service is completely FREE. There is no monthly charge for our service.
Q: Does my business need to buy or lease a collection tank?
A: Collection tanks (clean, delivered, and sized for your needs) are completely FREE of charge.
Q: What proof does my business have that cooking oil is disposed of properly in order to remove my liability?
A: We provide our customers with a waste manifest every time we collect your used cooking oil. We leave this detailed manifest, at the time of collection, and we also offer additional copies (via fax or e-mail) if needed for your records.
Q: Do you buy oil?
A: We buy oil.
No Customer Liability
"It is unlawful for any person or entity to engage in the transportation of inedible kitchen grease without being registered with the department and without being in possession of a valid registration certificate issued by the department." (CDFA Code - Section 19310.a).
Coastal Byproducts is completely state certified and insured for your protection. We provide a waste manifest for your records each time your used grease and cooking oil is collected. This documentation releases your liability and proves that you are concerned about the proper disposal of your liquid waste. Unlicensed collectors are not legally allowed to transport this waste and are generally under-insured. If improperly transported or illegally dispersed, it then becomes your responsibility.
It is in your best interest to work with a certified and fully insured waste recycling company who will also provide this service for free. It just makes good business sense to partner with Coastal Byproducts.
